Sacramento teacher who recorded his sex abuse of girls sentenced 215 years to life
A former longtime North Sacramento elementary teacher, who videotaped female students as young as 6 years old performing sex acts on him on campus and at his home, was sentenced to 215 years to life in prison Friday after being convicted of nine counts of committing lewd acts upon a child.
Kim Kenneth Wilson, 64, pled guilty in February to several counts of child sexual abuse in connection with his work running Del Paso Heights Elementary School’s audio-visual club. Wilson, who taught at the school from 2000 up until his arrest in 2023, took female students as young as 6 years old to a private, soundproof broadcasting room where he committed sex acts on the victims, often photographing or recording the abuse. He was also found to have abused children at his home during private events.
During a search of his Meadowview home in 2023, Sacramento police detectives found a cache of child-sized sex toys, VHS tapes and DVDs containing videos of Wilson sexually assaulting the children. The videos showed assaults spanning multiple years with numerous students, prosecutors said. Court documents, which listed multiple Does, placed the children’s ages between 6 and 12 years old.
He initially faced 36 counts in connection with lewd and lascivious acts on children under 14, but some charges were dismissed in exchange for an agreed upon disposition. Prosecutors said at the time that the negotiation spared the victims from having to testify in court and would result in a 215 years to life sentence.
The former teacher also admitted to multiple allegations from multiple victims as well as “substantial sexual conduct,” which is categorized as penetration of the vagina or rectum of the victim under California law. His sentence also considers aggravating factors like his targeting of vulnerable victims and his abuse of a position of trust.
Under current California law, Wilson will become eligible for release at an Elder Parole hearing once he serves 20 years of his sentence. With time served, the former teacher will be up for a hearing as early as 2042.
He is currently being held at Rio Consumnes Correctional Center in Elk Grove.
Twin Rivers Unified School District reached a $6 million lawsuit settlement in a civil case in relation to Wilson’s crimes earlier this month. The lawsuit alleged that Twin Rivers failed in its obligation to properly supervise Wilson, allowing his misconduct to go unchecked for several years.
Another family is seeking damages from Wilson and Twin Rivers through a separate civil case filed in June 2023 which is still proceeding in court.
