West Roseville’s growth could shift high school boundaries — who’s affected?
The Roseville Joint Union High School District is considering changes to school attendance boundaries as enrollment growth in west Roseville continued to strain campuses.
District projections presented during a board of trustees meeting Tuesday showed West Park, Roseville and Woodcreek high schools facing capacity challenges in the coming years.
Without boundary changes, Roseville High School is projected to reach capacity by the 2029-30 school year, with enrollment nearing 2,000 students.
By 2032-33, enrollment was expected to exceed capacity at about 2,092 students.
With proposed adjustments, Roseville High would still exceed target enrollment but remain closer to about 1,600 students.
West Park High School is projected to be at capacity without changes in 2029-30 with about 3,267 students and exceed capacity by 2031-32 with more than 3,397 students.
With boundary changes, enrollment would remain near 3,000 students, below maximum capacity.
Woodcreek High School is stated to be above target enrollment regardless of the boundary changes, though district officials said the issue could be addressed by limiting transfers.
Tony Phan, a spokesperson for the district, said most families would not be affected.
“In response to the growth in west Roseville, we have taken a segmented approach to boundary shifts over the last few years,” he said. “As we discuss these changes, we continue to encourage families to verify their specific home school based on their place of residence.”
The proposal would shift the north side of Blue Oaks Boulevard from the Woodcreek High boundary to the Roseville High boundary. The change includes homes bordered by Pleasant Grove Boulevard, Foothills Boulevard, Blue Oaks Boulevard and Woodcreek Oaks Boulevard.
Homes along Crock Ranch Road, Opal Drive, Northpark Drive and Parkside Way would be reassigned to the Woodcreek boundary instead of Roseville High.
The proposal also states that most homes west of Fiddyment Road would attend West Park High School.
Boundaries for Antelope, Oakmont and Granite Bay high schools would remain unchanged.
The district planned to phase in the changes over time, with final approval expected at a May or June school board meeting and implementation targeted for the 2027-28 school year.
Officials said the rollout would include a communication campaign in the fall, a transfer window opening in December and school registration beginning in February 2027.
For 2027-28, current students could remain at their schools, and incoming freshmen could attend the same school as a sibling. Other students would need to follow new boundaries or apply for transfers based on capacity.
The district anticipates that West Park and Woodcreek high schools would likely be closed to transfers due to high enrollment.
By 2028-29, all incoming students would be required to follow the new boundaries regardless of sibling attendance.
Transportation would continue for students remaining at their original schools through 2029-30.
No final decisions have been made. Phan said the district planned to present additional details to the board in May.
Phan said the district plans to bring forward more information to the board in a meeting in May.
