Leader of Sacramento’s Mercy General will also run Woodland Memorial, as CEO departs

The leader of Dignity Health’s Woodland Memorial Hospital, Kevin Vaziri, is stepping down after a health care industry career that has spanned more than 30 years, 16 of them at them in his current role, the company announced Wednesday.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have served Dignity Health and Woodland Memorial ... and will forever cherish the relationships I have formed with physicians, employees and community members,” Vaziri said. “I am proud of the work we accomplished to bring high quality care and comprehensive services to the region.”

Edmundo Castañeda, who leads Mercy General Hospital, will now take on the additional role of president and chief executive officer of Woodland Memorial. Castañeda joined Dignity in 2012 as president of Mercy General, and he’s been serving as an interim leader of Woodland Memorial since February. He also led Mercy Hospital of Folsom at one time.

“I congratulate Kevin on a brilliant career and thank him for his tireless service to Dignity Health and Woodland Memorial,” Castañeda said. “He leaves incredibly difficult shoes to fill, but I look forward to the challenge and am excited to continue to integrate myself in the hospital and community.”

Vaziri, whom Dignity officials said resigned for personal reasons, focused on delivering nationally recognized care to Yolo County residents and encouraging compassionate care that put patients first, Dignity leaders said in a news release issued on his departure.

Dignity Health, headquartered in San Francisco, is a division of Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health.
