Stretch of Highway 50 will undergo concrete repairs all week, Caltrans says
Caltrans will close lanes all week on a stretch of eastbound Highway 50 as damaged concrete slabs are repaired, with night work continuing through Sunday.
The repairs will close lanes between Stockton Boulevard and 65th Street, the agency said in a news release.
Alternating lane restrictions will be in place 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday; 11 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday; and 11 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday. Rain and fog could interrupt this schedule.
Myers and Sons Construction will replace “worn and damaged” concrete. Delays up to 15 minutes are expected, Caltrans said, and use of alternate routes is encouraged.
The work may also increase noise significantly along the highway, Caltrans said.
Caltrans has announced multiple closures in recent months – some planned and some emergencies – to fix concrete slabs along Sacramento’s freeways, most notably on Interstate 5.
Caltrans had to create a makeshift drainage ditch on I-5 near Richards Boulevard after storm erosion opened a massive sinkhole in late November. That same part of I-5 suffered two separate failures in August, creating potholes and uprooting concrete that damaged dozens of cars.
