Hitch a ride from Old Town. Regional Transit offers free light rail service on New Year’s Eve

Light rail service will be free on New Year’s Eve, Sacramento Regional Transit said Friday. RT partnered with Visit Sacramento to bring free transit to and from the “Sky Spectacular” fireworks in Old Sacramento.

Riders just need to bring a copy of the “Free Ride Flyer,” either printed or on their mobile device, to ride for free. Only one flyer is required per group.

The New Year’s Eve Sky Spectacular event will features games, music, dinner specials and children’s entertainment on the Old Sacramento waterfront. The free eventstarts at 6 p.m., with fireworks starting at 9.

Sac RT has 22 park-and-ride stations for those who wish to ride light rail but aren’t close enough to walk. Trains operate every 15 to 30 minutes, according to Sac RT.

According to Sac RT, the last Gold Line train traveling toward Sunrise/Folsom will depart the 7th & Capitol Station at 10:54 p.m.

The last Blue Line train traveling toward Cosumnes River College will depart the 7th & Capitol Station at 11:16 p.m., and the last train traveling toward Watt/I-80 will depart the 9th & K Station at 12:32 a.m.
