Here’s when Old Sacramento, Tower Bridge will close to traffic for New Year’s Eve

Streets in Old Sacramento and the Tower Bridge will be closed for parts of Tuesday evening due to New Year’s Eve festivities.

Ahead of a fireworks show at 9 p.m., Old Sacramento will be closed to vehicle parking at 2 p.m. and closed to vehicle traffic from 5:30 p.m. to about 10 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department said in a news release.

The Tower Bridge will be closed from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The fireworks show is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.

Pickup and dropoff for Uber, Lyft and taxi rides will be on 4th Street between L Street and the Capitol Mall, according to the police department.

The West Sacramento Police Department advises that portions of Riverwalk Park will be closed or have limited access due to the fireworks show.

Additional parking downtown for those headed to the celebration can be found on 10th Street between I and J streets, but authorities warn that these streets, as well as 3rd and 8th streets and the Capitol Mall, will likely be heavily congested.

“Please make plans to park at a nearby garage or better yet take public transit or bike/walk in,” Sacramento Police Capt. Norm Leong tweeted. “Happy New Year!”

Sacramento Regional Transit is offering free rides on light rail for the event, RT said in a release. “Simply present the Free Ride Flyer, which is available at sacrt.com, and ride light rail for free to and from the event.”
