Big rig hauling chickens overturns on Jackson Road in east Sacramento County, CHP says

A big rig carrying hundreds of live chickens overturned Wednesday morning on Jackson Road in the Sloughhouse area, authorities said.

The semitruck and double trailer hauling poultry flipped onto its side along westbound Jackson Road at Dillard Road shortly after 5 a.m., the California Highway Patrol’s East Sacramento office said in social media posts.

The truck’s driver suffered minor injuries, according to the CHP incident log. A large number of chickens are presumed dead.

The roadway was clear by 11 a.m., CHP officials said.
