Victim identified in fatal, head-on crash near Jackson Road in east Sacramento County

A driver who died in a head-on collision Wednesday in east Sacramento County has been identified by the coroner as a 29-year-old Sacramento woman.

Antoinette Windom was killed in the crash, which happened around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday on Eagles Nest Road near Jackson Road and involved two vehicles, according to the CHP and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.

Windom was the driver and sole occupant of her vehicle. Metro Fire spokesman Capt. Chris Vestal said the other vehicle contained five occupants, all of whom were hospitalized, two with “serious” injuries.

Vestal said, based on witness reports, that it appeared that the vehicle heading north on Eagles Nest Road may have been crossing into southbound traffic to pass a slower vehicle on the two-lane road. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the CHP’s East Sacramento office.

The stretch of Eagles Nest Road, located in the Vineyard area southeast of Rancho Cordova, was closed for a few hours Wednesday morning as investigators remained at the scene.
