Gas prices in CA dip below $6 for first time since May. How much is fuel in Sacramento?
After weeks of gasoline prices inching down across the country, average fuel in California dipped below $6 Friday for the first since May, according to the American Automobile Association.
The statewide average gas price on Friday was $5.95, which represents a 19 cent drop from a week ago.
Drivers in Sacramento may also be feeling some relief at the pump as of late, with fuel prices Friday averaging at $5.81 in the metro region — down by nearly a quarter from last week.
Lower gas prices can be attributed to a drop in the demand for gas, according to experts.
Still, California averages some of the highest gas prices compared to the rest of the country. This visualization shows average gas prices for states in the country.
The average price for gas nationwide, as of Friday, was $4.57, which represents “one of the largest monthly declines on record,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
De Haan said in a tweet that Thursday’s average marked the largest single day decline in gas prices since the 2008 economic crisis.
