Where is the cheapest gas in Sacramento right now? Here’s where to look as prices climb

California gas prices are inching towards $5 per gallon again but cheap prices are out there — you just have to know where to look.

The statewide average price for unleaded regular gasoline was nearly $4.65 per gallon on Monday, according to AAA. That’s a roughly 23-cent jump since January and close to where prices sat a year ago.

Sacramento mirrors the state’s gas price climb, reaching roughly $4.56 per gallon Monday. The average price for unleaded regular fuel last month was a little more than a quarter less at $4.28 per gallon.

It’s still among the cheapest gas in the state, according to AAA. Prices in Mono County are running at an average of $5.75 a gallon; a gallon in San Francisco will set you back an average of $4.84. Cheaper prices can be had in Butte, Sutter, Tehama, San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties, but not by much — the lowest price in the north state is $4.40 a gallon in the Chico area while Modesto’s average is a penny higher.
