Doctor convicted of molesting five boys during physical exams, Indiana officials say

A pediatrician accused of molesting five boys during physical exams was found guilty Thursday, media outlets report.

Jonathon Cavins, a former doctor at Witham Health Services in Lebanon, Indiana, was charged last year with fondling a 12-year-old boy during a routine exam, the Indianapolis Star reported.

After he was arrested, four more victims told investigators that Cavins also had molested them during exams, WRTV reported. A jury convicted Cavins of two counts of child molesting, sexual misconduct with a minor and two counts of child seduction, all of which are felonies, the Indianapolis TV station reported.

Prosecutors said Cavins put condoms on the boys and stroked their penis, the Herald Bulletin reported. All the patients were between ages 12 and 17, the newspaper reported.

It’s an immediate panic almost,” the 12-year-old’s mother told the Indianapolis Star last year. “I can’t picture myself being comfortable to ever leave my child alone with anyone ever again.”

Under Indiana law, the advised prison sentence for Cavins is 17 years, but he could get a punishment of as little as six years, the Herald Bulletin reported.

His sentencing hearing is set for a later date, WRTV reported.
