Hatchet-wielding Voodoo Doughnut thief betrayed by pink box, Oregon cops say

A hatchet-carrying man who robbed Voodoo Doughnut in downtown Portland early Saturday didn’t get far, Oregon police say in a release.

Officers responding to the 3:42 a.m. robbery found Christopher L. James, 40, walking down the street a block from the shop eating a doughnut and carrying a pink box, police say.

James tried to run away but officers caught him after two blocks and arrested him on suspicion of robbery, police say. Officers recovered the hatchet, which they say James had left at the shop.

Voodoo Doughnut employees told police James had entered the 24-hour shop on Southwest 3rd Avenue, jumped behind the counter and filled a box with doughnuts before leaving, The Oregonian reported.
