George Floyd will be laid to rest in Houston today. Here’s how to watch

George Floyd’s funeral service will be livestreamed from Houston on Tuesday. Floyd, an unarmed black man, died two weeks ago in Minneapolis police custody, sparking national protests.

The funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Central time at the The Fountain of Praise church, CNN reported. Thousands gathered for Floyd’s public viewing on Monday.

News outlets will be covering the service live. You can also watch a livestream by C-SPAN.

Mia K. Wright, co-pastor of The Fountain of Praise church, told CNN: “We celebrate a life that had its ups and downs as many lives do but also a life that was connected to God and one that all people around the world have now connected to because of the tragedy and the trauma by which he passed.”

Floyd’s previous services took place at North Central University in Minneapolis and in Raeford, North Carolina.

Floyd was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, so “his family would remember him” in the state, his sister told WRAL.

Hundreds attended Floyd’s service in Minneapolis, The New York Times reported.

“We were smarter than the underfunded schools you put us in,” Rev. Al Sharpton said in a eulogy, according to the outlet. “But you had your knee on our neck. We could run corporations and not hustle in the streets, but you had your knee on our neck. We had creative skills, we could do whatever anybody else could do. But we couldn’t get your knee off our neck.”

Derek Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, was shown on video kneeling on Floyd’s neck for more than 8 minutes before he died. He was arrested May 29, according to the Minnesota Public Safety Commissioner.

On Sunday, a veto-proof majority in the Minneapolis city council vowed to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department and create a “community-led safety” model, The Guardian reported.

Chauvin received an upgraded second-degree murder charge last week, McClatchy News reported. Chauvin was previously charged with third-degree murder. The other three Minneapolis officers on the scene of Floyd’s death have also been charged in Floyd’s murder, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced on June 3. All four officers have been fired.
