A burglary suspect smashed a victim’s car window with a hammer multiple times after stealing from their Washington home, police said.

Children were inside the vehicle when the man — who remains at large — struck the driver side window on Saturday, the Marysville Police Department told McClatchy News.

The victim saw two burglars carrying stolen items from the home to their car, police said, including a pistol, jewelry and other personal items.

The victim parked behind a spray-painted PT Cruiser and blocked them from leaving, police said. The two suspects then rammed the car multiple times, police said, before one of them got out and smashed the window with the hammer.

The suspects were then able to flee after the victim backed out, according to KCPQ, which reported the family remains shaken up from the experience.

“Even their 2-year-old has been showing some signs of stress. He has a little hammer set … his dad does construction, so he likes to play on it. It used to be a playful act, she said, and now he’s walking around slamming it just the way the suspect did to their vehicle that day,” Detective Joe Belleme told KCPQ.

Police said they continue to search for the suspects, who have not been arrested and are deemed “dangerous.”
