Best Valentine’s Day gift ever: Man gives wife Virginia lottery ticket. She won big
A lottery ticket quickly turned into “happily ever after” for a woman in Prince William County, Virginia, after her husband gifted her an Extreme Millions ticket for Valentine’s Day.
It was worth $10 million, lottery officials said.
Maria Chicas, a stay-at-home mom, didn’t believe it when her husband first called her after he scratched the ticket, she told lottery officials. He had bought the ticket a couple of days before Valentine’s Day from the In & Out Mart in Manassas.
Once he saw that it was a winning ticket, he called his wife.
“Aw, you’re lying,” she said over the phone when he called her, according to lottery officials.
“I thought he was joking,” Chicas said.
Chicas had the option of taking the full $10 million over 30 years, or a one-time cash payout of 6,570,302 before taxes, according to the Virginia Lottery. Chicas chose the cash payout.
The In & Out Mart also received a commission of $50,000 for selling the ticket, the Virginia Lottery said.
The odds of winning the top prize of Extreme Millions are 1-in-2,937,600, according to the Virginia Lottery.
