Family car crashes into creek, killing mom and child, injuring 3 siblings, Iowa cops say
A mother and child were killed and three other children were injured when a car crashed into a creek, according to Iowa authorities.
The Davenport Police Department responded to a call about a car crash with victims trapped inside around 11 p.m. on Aug. 22, the department said in a news release on Aug. 24.
The family was headed south when the driver, 31-year-old mother Ashley Taylor, lost control, officials said. The vehicle crossed the center line, hit a bridge, and landed on its side in Duck Creek, according to the release.
Videos of the wreck from Our Quad Cities showed the SUV had landed on the driver’s side, with the bumper sitting in the mud and water. The passenger side had multiple dents to the side doors and back wheel well, footage showed.
Officials said the mother died at the scene and her 12-year-old child, Andre Grady, was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Her 10-year-old child suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to a nearby hospital, according to the release. The youngest passengers – her 9-month-old and 8-year-old children – suffered minor injuries that were treated at a hospital before they were released, officials said.
Police said the crash is still under investigation.
Davenport is about 170 miles east of Des Moines, on the Iowa-Illinois border.
