KFC worker hit by stray bullet as group fought outside restaurant, Georgia police say
A KFC employee was shot while standing outside of the restaurant after a fight broke out nearby, police in Georgia said.
It was around 9:30 p.m. Oct. 26 when the Atlanta Police Department was called to the KFC on Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard, according to a news release from the department.
Officers found a KFC worker suffering from a gunshot wound, police told McClatchy News in an email. The worker was taken to a hospital and is in “serious condition,” according to the release.
Investigators learned that the worker had been standing outside of the KFC when a fight broke out among of group of male suspects nearby, according to the release. The dispute escalated to gunfire, police said, and the KFC worker was struck by a stray bullet.
“The victim does not appear to be an intended target at this time,” police said.
The worker had to undergo emergency surgery following the shooting, police told WSBTV.
Shortly after the shooting outside the KFC, officers were called to a second location where shots were fired, police said in the release.
Investigators found shell casings at the second location, but no people were shot, the release said. A building had damage from bullets, according to the release.
Police have not announced any arrests or named any suspects and the investigation is ongoing, the release said.
