Their first lottery ticket was a dud, but then the Idaho couple checked the second one
As Kim Mitchell was watching TV at home, she saw the winning lottery numbers for the Idaho $1,000,000 Raffle pop up.
Mitchell scanned her tickets to see if the numbers matched. Her first ticket was a dud — but then she looked at the second, she told lottery officials, according to a Jan. 5 news release.
“No way,” she said to herself.
After Mitchell realized she won, she called her husband to tell him the good news.
“I thought she was messing with me,” Kim’s husband, Steve, told lottery officials. “Once she convinced me, I told her I’d be home in a few minutes.”
Her husband told his job he had to leave because he won the lottery and rushed home, lottery officials said.
The Nampa couple bought their ticket from the Maverik on Karcher and Franklin roads, according to lottery officials. The store got a $20,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
The Mitchells plan to put their winnings toward retirement, they told lottery officials.
Nampa is about 25 miles west of Boise.
