Truck driver’s ‘hankering’ for a barbecue sandwich nets him huge Virginia lottery win
Tim Allen had never bought a lottery raffle ticket before.
The Virginia truck driver stopped at a local grocery store near Danville after having a “hankering” for a barbecue sandwich and decided to try his luck in the New Year’s Millionaire Raffle, purchasing two tickets along with his sandwich, according to a Jan. 12 news release.
That decision ended up winning him $1 million.
“I couldn’t believe it!” Allen told Virginia Lottery officials. “It was the first time I’d bought a Raffle ticket.”
One of Allen’s tickets won the top $1 million prize, one of five winners on New Year’s Day. There were seven other tickets that earned a $100,000 prize and 1,000 tickets that won $500.
When he came to collect his prize, Allen said it “feels great” and he was filled with “pure excitement!”
Danville is near the Virginia-North Carolina border, about 45 miles northeast of Greensboro, North Carolina.
