Mega Millions jackpot nearly sets a record at $1.35 billion. When is the next drawing?
The Mega Millions jackpot is nearing the largest in history at $1.35 billion after no one had a winning ticket during the Jan. 10 drawing.
The jackpot record is held by a South Carolina winner who landed the $1.537 billion prize on Oct. 23, 2018, lottery officials said.
Now players have a chance to win the second-largest jackpot in history on Friday, Jan. 13. Drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m. ET.
“The jackpot has rolled again, keeping everyone who follows Mega Millions in suspense for yet another drawing,” said Ohio Lottery Director Pat McDonald and lead director of the Mega Millions Consortium.
There have been 25 drawings without a winner since two players from California and Florida split a $502 million jackpot on Oct. 14, lottery officials said.
Some may be superstitious about playing on Friday the 13th, lottery officials said, but six previous jackpots have been won on this unlucky date.
Players in Michigan won four of those jackpots, including one jackpot that was shared by someone in Rhode Island. The two other winning Friday the 13th tickets were claimed in New York and Ohio.
Mega Millions costs $2 to play. To win the jackpot, a player has to match all six numbers that are drawn.
