Debbie Clegg, a manager at Walmart, was on her way to work in Blackfoot when she decided to pick up two scratchers.

She forgot about the Woohville lottery tickets until her lunch break, according to an Idaho Lottery news release.

Clegg scratched one ticket and won nothing, lottery officials said. Then when she scratched the second one, she was in “complete disbelief.”

The scratcher showed the $10,000 winner symbol. But Clegg didn’t believe it.

“I had to keep calling and calling our office until someone finally picked up and came to my rescue! I just had to have another pair of eyes look and tell me I wasn’t going crazy,” she told the Idaho Lottery office while laughing on Feb. 21.

A co-worker checked the ticket and said it was a winning ticket. Clegg also scanned it in the lottery app, which told her to contact the local lottery office.

Clegg said her husband wanted to spend the money on a vacation, but she has other plans.

“I thought it was so bittersweet. On one hand, I let him down by telling him my new, big check wasn’t going towards a trip,” she told lottery officials. “But on the other, I’ve never had a brand new washer/dryer or fridge before!”

The couple from Idaho Falls will still get their vacation, though. They had already booked their first cruise for July.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
