A woman couldn’t get enough of country singer Luke Combs’ music — then she bought a South Carolina lottery ticket with his name on it.

“I love him even more now,” the woman said after scoring a $200,000 prize in a Combs-themed scratch-off game.

The winner hit the jackpot after a trip to R K Store, a Citgo station in Chesnee, roughly 45 miles northeast of Greenville. While there, she played the Living Lucky with Luke Combs game, the S.C. Education Lottery wrote in a May 25 news release.

It turns out, one of the scratch-offs the woman bought for $5 was worth much more. She said she was shocked when she discovered her ticket won the game’s top prize, beating 1-in-750,000 odds.

“It was after supper when I scratched them,” said the woman, who wasn’t identified in the release. “And I couldn’t believe it.”

Among those celebrating was the lottery player’s sister, who had a key role in her win. The $200,000 winner said she hadn’t “played the lottery in years, but when her sister told her that she’d won $15 on the $5 Luke Combs ticket, she wanted to try one.”

Now, the sibling who scored the bigger prize said she has more money for retirement. She kept $139,000 after taxes, lottery spokesperson Holli Armstrong told McClatchy News in an email.

It’s not the first time fandom has led to a major lottery win. In North Carolina, another Luke Combs fan won big in the same game, while a woman’s longtime love for bingo led her to a jackpot prize, McClatchy News reported.
