Same lucky numbers made thousands winners in NC lottery. Now comes $3.2 million payout
A set of lucky numbers led to thousands of wins in the North Carolina lottery.
More than 7,800 tickets won prizes in the Pick 3 game, which allows lottery players to select any combination of three numbers or have a machine randomly choose them, according to the N.C. Education Lottery.
It turns out, several people tried their luck with the combination of 7-7-7. That same sequence was picked in a drawing on Monday, July 31, officials wrote on Twitter, now rebranded as X.
Among those who won, anyone who paid 50 cents for a ticket scored $250. Players who bought their tickets for $1 are set to get $500 richer, officials told McClatchy News in an email.
In all, the N.C. Education Lottery said it’s doling out over $3.2 million in prize money.
Lottery officials said the seven-figure payout is similar to others it has faced after three-of-a-kind numbers are drawn. The odds of winning a Pick 3 prize with any trio of numbers is 1 in 1,000.
