Lottery player’s $100,000 win kept growing. Now Missouri woman will honor late husband
Scratching off a ticket that revealed a $100,000 prize, a Missouri Lottery player quickly realized her winnings were only the beginning.
And now, after winning the jackpot $777,777 prize in the Triple Red 777 game, the Pettis County woman plans to honor her late husband.
She purchased the $10 ticket at a supermarket in Sedalia, telling lottery officials the game’s bright red color enticed her.
“The first prize I uncovered was $100,000,” she told lottery officials. “Then I won another $100,000, and another and another... and the last prize was for $77,777.”
She claimed one of the two jackpot prizes. The game also offers five prizes of $77,777.
The lottery winner said she is now planning a trip to see the Northern Lights.
“My husband wanted to see the Northern Lights and to dip his feet in the ocean,” she said, per lottery officials. “I really wish he could have been here with me to do this.”
Sedalia is about 95 miles southeast of Kansas City.
