Lottery winner can’t believe huge prize — then her grandpa double-checked the ticket
Before leaving the grocery store, a Michigan woman said she decided to buy an instant lottery ticket.
Then she waited to scratch the $20 Supreme ticket until she got home, according to an Oct. 16 news release from the Michigan Lottery.
“I scratched the ticket ... and was in shock when I saw I won $2 million,” the 29-year-old Detroit woman told lottery officials.
“I didn’t believe what I was seeing, so I had to have my grandpa double-check the ticket,” she continued.
The extra pair of eyes confirmed she really had won the game’s top prize.
“It was such an unreal feeling, and it still hasn’t fully sunk in,” the woman said when claiming her big win.
The lottery winner was given two options: a one-time payment of about $1.3 million, or 30 annual payments worth the full amount, according to the release.
She chose the lump sum payment, officials said, and plans to travel and help her family.
Her winning ticket was sold by 8 Mile Foodland in Southfield, part of the Detroit metropolitan area.
