After arriving to a North Carolina shelter with a litter of puppies more than a year ago, a “spunky” mother dog is still looking to find a home for herself despite all of her babies getting adopted.

Olive, a 6-year-old bulldog mix, has been at the Lake Norman Humane in Mooresville for more than 400 days, the organization said in a Nov. 14 Facebook post. The “loving” dog recently got a chance to experience life outside the shelter in a “foster field trip,” the post said, as she still waits to find the right owner.

The white dog with tan markings can be seen exploring around a body of water and a forested area in a video posted by the shelter of her adventure outside. The shelter said that they had never seen Olive wag her tail so much or smile so big.

“We don’t really need to say much, as this video encompasses all that Olive is,” the shelter wrote in the post. “Light, joy, love, spunky, adventurous, sweet, gentle, kind.”

While the shelter has been taking good care of Olive, her life before “was not an easy one,” according to the shelter’s website. Previously, the bulldog lived outside “chained up and alone,” the shelter said.

“That is all about to change because Olive is ready to become an indoor dog and finally experience the warmth and love of a true forever home,” the shelter said on Olive’s adoption page.

Despite being shy at first around new people, the shelter says Olive is an “absolute love bug” who enjoys being scratched on her chin or her side. When she’s not cuddling, the 6-year-old bulldog with “captivating brown and blue eyes” adores adventuring outside and playing around her toys, the shelter said.

Lake Norman Humane recommends that Olive go to a home where she “can run and play to her heart’s content.” She’s a “champion good girl” too, the shelter said.

“She has been with us 431 days,” the shelter said in its post. “Please let this week be her week.”

Olive is listed for adoption at Lake Norman Humane as of Nov. 15. Her adoption fee is $300.

Mooresville is about 30 miles north of Charlotte.
