A man was left with burns on the majority of his body after a grill outside his Florida home exploded, the fire department told news outlets.

Around 7:45 p.m. on Nov. 15, an “elderly” man was using a grill next to his house when it “exploded,” Tarpon Springs Fire Rescue told WTSP.

A neighbor quickly jumped in with a hose to douse the flames, the fire department told the outlet, but the man was still severely burned.

When the fire department arrived they found the man had been burned on about 85% of his body, the department told WFTS.

He was flown by helicopter to the hospital in critical condition, fire officials told the outlet.

The fire department told WTVT there was fire damage to the side of the man’s home and the porch, but they were still trying to determine the cause of the explosion.

McClatchy News reached out to the Tarpon Springs Fire Rescue for more information and an update on the man’s condition.

Tarpon Springs is about 30 miles northwest of Tampa.
