Creature makes ‘rare’ appearance at baseball stadium in South Dakota. Take a look
A “rare” creature was spotted hiding inside a South Dakota baseball stadium, police said.
The gray fox, which is considered rare to the area, needed special attention from police and state officials to ensure it was safe.
“This was an unusual and exciting find!” Watertown police said in a May 14 Facebook post.
The small fox was safely moved from the Watertown Stadium to state-owned land just south of the town where it could run free among grass and trees, police said.
Gray fox are found in many parts of the United States, including the Midwest, though they are extremely rare in eastern South Dakota, according to police and the Wildlife Science Center.
Watertown is about a 100-mile drive north of Sioux Falls.
