‘Sweet and timid’ dog found hiding under car now needs a home, Florida shelter says
A “sweet and timid” dog was found hiding under a car — and now, she needs a loving new owner.
“Garlic was a stray, so we don’t know the roots of her fear and nervousness,” a Florida animal shelter wrote July 16 in a Facebook post. “But we know with patience, kindness and a pup cup or two, she can get past that, and just enjoy being the sweet dog that she is.”
Garlic “enjoyed every drop” of a pup cup — a creamy treat for dogs — when she recently got a break from living at Orange County Animal Services. She arrived at the shelter in late May after someone discovered her hiding spot, according to the social media post and an online adoption profile.
“She was picked up by our officers who responded to a call about a scared stray dog that was hiding beneath a resident’s car,” the Orlando-based shelter wrote. “A neighbor was able to coax her out from under there and get her into a yard using some treats, and then our officer was able to impound this extremely fearful girl.”
Garlic is shy around strangers, but she shows her affectionate side once she builds trust. When she’s comfortable around someone, she’s often found “leaning in and pushing her big head to get as close as she can to them.”
Garlic is believed to be 3 years old but “carries herself like a much older and calmer dog.” The dog, known for relaxing in the kiddie pool, has been overlooked at the shelter.
“Garlic has been here for quite some time, with very little interest or interactions,” Animal Services wrote. “It’s sad to see it, because she is a genuinely sweet dog who gets along with other dogs, and loves attention from people.”
As of July 19, the shelter’s website still listed her among the pets available for adoption.
“Let’s get her seen,” the shelter wrote. “Let’s get her home.”
Orange County Animal Services didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on July 17 and 19. More details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at orangecountyanimalservicesfl.net.
