A 2-year-old dog has already “gone through so much” — and now she needs another new home.

“Angel needs an angel,” a Florida animal shelter wrote July 18 in a Facebook post.

Angel has been up for adoption for more than a month at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. The pup landed at the shelter after she experienced a rough patch.

“Her first year was spent in an abusive home, where she was treated like no animal should ever be,” the shelter wrote. “This caused her to be reserved and scared but she was rescued by a family who loved her for the next year of her life. Tragically, her owner was diagnosed with dementia and suffered a stroke leaving them understandably unable to care for her.”

As Angel waits for a new owner, an online adoption profile describes her as a quiet and affectionate mixed-breed pup.

“Angel is shy but once she is out of her shell, she is so loving and sweet,” the shelter wrote. “She loves being outside and really thrives out in the play yards.”

Photos that the humane society shared online show Angel with a cone around her head, reportedly due to a broken toe nail. She’s available as an “as is adoption, due to heartworms,” though the shelter didn’t explain her medical situation in more detail.

As of July 22, the shelter’s website still listed Angel among the dogs dogs in need of homes. More details about its adoption process can be found at humanesocietytampa.org.

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on July 19 and 22.
