A dog with a horrific injury to his leg is on the mend and adjusting to life with a missing limb at one Pennsylvania shelter.

According to an extremely emotional Facebook post, the SPCA was alerted to a distressed dog that was in pain and needed aid — and fast.

“It was just two weeks ago when our Animal Law Enforcement team was contacted by the city’s shelter about a dog who urgently needed care,” Pennsylvania SPCA said in a July 26 post.

“Dispatched immediately, our officer arrived to find a mere puppy pleading for help. Unable to stand, his leg had already been wrapped in a bandage. While we didn’t know what was under that bandage, we knew it was bad.”

Photos show a wide-eyed, dark speckled pup and the injury to his right limb.

“That was the moment we first met Julian.”

The shelter discovered that the wounds were so deep, his nerves were exposed and he couldn’t walk.

“Even now, the image the panic, pain and fear in his eyes as our team furiously examined him are burned into our collective memory,” the post continued. “It was clear that he had been through a lot in his young life and he was worried about what was next.”

Julian was transferred to Penn Vet “as part of the Richard Lichter Charity for Dogs program” to save the leg, but unfortunately, they were unable to and had to amputate.

“Against the odds, the pain, and the uncertainty of his future, Julian has shown us what it means to be strong. To be forgiving,” the post said. “This little pup has won over every heart he’s met, with his wagging tail, his snuggles, and his unwavering optimism.”

The shelter posted an update later in the day, saying that Julian is “safe now” thanks to the vets and SPCA.

“And (we are) going to do everything we (can) to ease his pain and give him the very best life ahead.”
