Wife misses phone call when Missouri lottery player hit jackpot. ‘Heart was pounding’
A Missouri man couldn’t believe he hit the jackpot and called his wife to tell her the good news.
She didn’t answer the phone, the winner told Missouri lottery officials, but those around him wanted to know how much he had won.
“They were all like, ‘How much was it?” he told officials in an Aug. 14 news release.
As the Springfield man realized his $141,000 win, he said “my heart was pounding out of my chest!”
He matched all five numbers — 4, 31, 32, 33 and 36 — during the Show Me Cash drawing July 31, according to lottery officials.
The man made his way home to tell his wife the news in person.
“I did get to see the look on her face when I told her,” he said. “Her eyes just kept getting bigger and bigger!”
Show Me Cash draws happen each day at 8:59 p.m., officials said. The jackpot starts at $50,000 and grows until it is won.
