Inspired by the luck of her best friend, a 63-year-old woman took a chance on an Iowa lottery game.

“She won $10,000 on the same ticket and then three months later she got $100,000 on the same ticket,” Melinda Faas said of her friend’s 2021 wins.

Faas shared similar luck as her friend three years later, winning a $10,000 prize from the Mega Crossword scratch-off ticket she bought at Casey’s, Iowa lottery officials said.

The Osage woman’s instinct was to tell her best friend.

“She was the first person I called,” the winner said.

For now, Faas says she’s planning to save her winnings, but she also has her eyes on another way to spend the cash.

“Well, I’ve been looking for maybe a toy to drive, maybe?” she told lottery officials. “We’ll see!”

Osage is about a 150-mile drive northeast from Des Moines.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
