A Missouri man “unexpectedly” pulled a $10 bill out of his pocket, leading him to buy a winning lottery ticket.

First, he bought $5 worth of gas. Then, the man was ready to test his luck.

He had never won with the “Heaps of $500s” scratch-off game but decided to try it “one more time,” he told Missouri lottery officials in a Nov. 26 news release.

He bought the ticket using the remaining money and scratched it off to reveal the game’s top prize of $100,000.

“I got in the car and I called my wife and she didn’t believe me,” he told officials. “It wasn’t until I got home and showed her that she believed me.”

The ticket was purchased at a QuikTrip in St. Louis.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
