A driver nearing an intersection said he didn’t see a group of children before he hit them, killing a 10-year-old, Michigan deputies and news outlets reported.

Several school-aged children were struck by the 29-year-old driver in Sherman Township on Dec. 2, the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office told MLive.

Lifesaving measures were performed following the 8 a.m. accident, but deputies said the 10-year-old died at the scene of the accident, WKZO reported.

The victim’s name and gender were not disclosed by officials.

The driver, whose identity was not provided, was arrested and is now facing undisclosed felony charges, officials told WOOD.

The suspect was scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 3, WBST reported.

Sherman Township is about a 50-mile drive northwest of Grand Rapids.
