Husband driving drunk kills wife when he crashes on New Year’s Eve, Oklahoma cops say
A husband was speeding through Oklahoma streets on New Year’s Eve when he struck a curb, ejecting his wife from the pickup and killing her, police said.
Isiah Brown, 23, told police that he had been drinking for “most of the day,” Tulsa police said in a Jan. 2 Facebook post. Officials said he had minor injuries from the crash.
His wife, 29-year-old Dayani Soberanis, was taken to the hospital and died shortly after midnight on Jan. 1, according to Tulsa police.
One witness told officers that the accused drunk driver nearly hit her car before he crashed into the curb. She recalled having to swerve off of the road to avoid a collision, according to police.
Brown is now facing several charges and was booked in Tulsa County Jail. He’s charged with:
- First-Degree Manslaughter
- Reckless Driving
- Aggravated DUI
- Carrying a Firearm While Intoxicated
- Transporting an Open Container
- Violation of Driver’s License Restrictions
He is held on a $40,000 bond, according to jail records.
