A 70-year-old driver came crashing through a McDonald’s dining room, sending glass shards in the direction of a 31-year-old man inside, Illinois police said.

The Jan. 7 crash caused “significant damage” to the north side of the restaurant, Joliet police said. Photos shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, show the damaged car inside the narrow dining room of the McDonald’s.

Before plowing through the Joliet McDonald’s, the woman was driving on the adjacent road when she struck another vehicle, according to police. She lost control of her car and veered across multiple lanes and into the McDonald’s parking lot, police said.

Her vehicle came to a stop once she crashed into the McDonald’s.

A 31-year-old man inside the McDonald’s suffered minor injuries when he was hit in the leg by a table and shattered glass, police said. The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the post.

The driver told police she had suffered from a possible medical episode at the time of the initial crash, officers said in the post.

She was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, police said.

Joliet is about a 45-mile drive southwest from downtown Chicago.
