Wife’s ‘magical dream’ leads to big Maryland lottery win. ‘It didn’t seem real’
As a Maryland woman slept, a series of numbers came to her in a “magical dream.”
To her, it was a sign to buy a lottery ticket, Maryland Lottery officials said in a Jan. 8 news release.
As the woman and her husband made their way to a holiday party, they stopped to pick up a lottery ticket at an Oxon Hill convenience store, lottery officials said.
“We were running late and I almost forgot to play,” the woman told lottery officials. “But, I knew we just had to play those numbers from my dream.”
They bought a $1 Pick 5 ticket and played the wife’s numbers, “99000,” for a Dec. 20 drawing.
Afterward, the couple headed to the party, where they “had a grand time,” lottery officials said.
When they finally checked their ticket later that night, they “realized they had a match,” lottery officials said.
But, even still, “the big win didn’t quite register.”
“My wife showed me, but it didn’t seem real,” the husband told lottery officials. “But when the Midas touch comes, hopefully, you’re on it and thankfully we were.”
They scored a $50,000 prize.
The couple told lottery officials they spent some of their windfall on their grandchildren for Christmas.
How they’ll spend the rest, however, is uncertain.
“Whatever (my wife) wants,” the husband told lottery officials.
Oxon Hill is about a 50-mile drive southwest from Baltimore.
