On the way to use a car wash gift certificate they were given as a Christmas present, something caught the eye of a Maryland husband and wife.

The Parkville couple spotted a gas station where they once bought a winning lottery ticket that came with a favorable prize, Maryland Lottery officials said in a Jan. 14 news release.

“We buy tickets three or four times a week, and the place had been lucky for us,” the couple told lottery officials, “so we stopped in.”

With a recent win on a $20 Millionaire’s Club ticket, the couple decided to give their luck another go, lottery officials said.

And, to their surprise, luck was in their favor, again; they won $50,000.

“To say we were shocked would be an understatement,” the man told lottery officials. “My heart really picked up steam, and you should have seen the look on my wife’s face.”

The couple said they plan to use some of their winnings to pay off bills, and they’ll tuck the rest away in savings.

Parkville is about a 20-mile drive northeast from Baltimore.
