Lottery player thinks life-changing Virginia win is scam. ‘Didn’t know what happened’
A quiet evening at home became a life-changing day when a lucky Virginia man won a huge jackpot while playing online lottery games, lottery officials said.
Manoj Chhetry, from Woodbridge, won a jackpot prize worth $4,303,499 in the Dec. 22 drawing for the Merry Money Mania game, the Virginia Lottery said in a Jan. 22 news release.
Chhetry told lottery officials he thought it was a scam at first and had to call his wife to help him verify that he really had won.
“I didn’t know what happened!” he said.
The Merry Money Mania game started in November and costs between 10 cents and $50 to play, according to the website.
The overall odds of winning are 1 in 3.74, and the odds of winning a top prize vary by price point.
The estimated jackpot as of Jan. 22 is more than $470,000, the lottery said.
Woodbridge is about 85 miles north of Richmond.
