Lucky lottery player scores big prize in Virginia — again. ‘It feels wonderful!’
A Virginia woman scored a big prize playing Powerball, but it wasn’t her first time to strike it lucky with lottery games, officials said.
Jennifer Helfman, from Alexandria, won $100,000 in the Dec. 7 Powerball drawing, about two years after winning $399,392 in an online lottery game, the Virginia Lottery said in a Jan. 21 news release.
She matched four winning numbers plus the Powerball to win $50,000, and an added Power Play doubled her winnings, the lottery said.
“It feels wonderful!” Helfman told lottery officials while claiming her recent prize.
The winning numbers in the Dec. 7 drawing were 1, 31, 43, 55 and 57, and the Powerball was 22. One player matched all five numbers and the Powerball to win the jackpot.
The jackpot as of Jan. 23 is $46 million, and the next drawing is Jan. 25, the lottery said.
What to know about Powerball
To score the jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.
The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.
Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.
Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.
Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
