A Maryland lottery player won big from a scratch-off ticket he chose because of the design, lottery officials said.

The player, who chose to stay anonymous, told the Maryland Lottery the ticket stuck out to him because of its “vibrant colors and nostalgic design.”

Now, he’s a $50,000 winner in the Monopoly X200 game — the biggest prize he’s won in his life, lottery officials said in a Feb. 7 news release.

“I was floored,” he told lottery officials. “I never imagined seeing all that money come from a scratch-off.”

The Damascus resident purchased his $30 ticket from a 7-Eleven in Gaithersburg, about a 20-mile drive northwest from Washington, D.C., according to lottery officials.

The Monopoly X200 game started in November and features several prizes ranging from $30 to $2 million, according to the lottery website.

The odds of winning are 1-in-2.83, lottery officials said. There are three top prizes remaining and four $50,000 prizes left.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
