Couple learns of big Powerball win from Facebook post in Maryland. ‘Finally we did it’
A couple was scrolling Facebook when they saw a post about a Powerball win in Maryland.
They checked their ticket and discovered they were the winners of $50,000.
About a week before this, on Jan. 10, the couple from Crofton had gone out to “a relaxing dinner to decompress,” the Maryland Lottery said in a Feb. 11 news release.
They stopped at a 7-Eleven after to buy some lottery tickets, including two Powerball tickets that cost $2 a piece.
The couple didn’t check their tickets until nearly a week later, lottery officials said.
“We didn’t watch the drawings, so we had no idea,” the man told lottery officials.
His wife said they saw a Facebook post from their local 7-Eleven saying it had sold a ticket worth $50,000.
They checked their Powerball tickets and realized one had four matching white balls and the red Powerball.
“We’ve been trying and trying and finally we did it,” the man said.
The husband and wife plan to use their winnings to pay off bills.
Crofton is about a 25-mile drive south from Baltimore.
