Lottery ticket worth $10.4M bought in Illinois before Super Bowl. Where was it sold?
While the country prepared to watch the Super Bowl take place in New Orleans, lottery players in Illinois were holding their breath to see if they would walk away with an even bigger win that weekend: a jackpot prize.
According to officials, one person in the state is holding a lottery ticket worth $10.4 million after the Feb. 8 drawing.
The winner matched all six numbers during the Lotto drawing that occurred the night before the biggest game in football, officials said. The winning numbers were 6-9-18-31-39-49.
While the winner has not come forward, workers are already celebrating at the gas station in Des Plaines that sold the ticket.
The Mobil gas station will receive a bonus equal to 1% of the winnings, lottery officials said, which is about $104,000.
“We only bought this store a month ago, and already we have a big jackpot winner!” Jinu John, the gas station’s co-owner, told officials. “I don’t know who won - but it’s certainly one lucky guy or girl.”
The jackpot winner has one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prize.
Des Plaines is about a 20-mile drive northwest from downtown Chicago.
