Lottery player who follows ‘ritual’ when checking tickets scores big win. ‘Shocked’
A Maryland man follows a specific “ritual” after he buys lottery tickets.
Instead of checking them right away, the St. Mary’s County man waits to scratch them off at home later in the day, Maryland Lottery officials said in a Feb. 26 news release.
“I like to play them to pass the time,” the truck driver told lottery officials.
As the player checked his instant tickets, he noticed his $20 Bonus Bingo X20 scratch-off had some matches, lottery officials said.
Given the late hour, the man told lottery officials he decided to use his lottery app to check the ticket.
He learned he’d won the game’s second-tier prize of $50,000.
“I was shocked and I was very happy,” the winner said in the release.
The man told lottery officials he plans to use his winnings “to help his daughter.”
St. Mary’s County is about an 85-mile drive south from Baltimore.
