Every year, a Maryland lottery player uses a “specific sequence of numbers” to buy a ticket on his birthday.

But the Baltimore County man’s number combination, which includes his birthday, had never brought him any luck, Maryland Lottery officials said in a Feb. 27 news release.

“I played these numbers for sentimental reasons,” the man told lottery officials. “I never, ever thought any of them would come out on my birthday. They just never do.”

This year, though, it was a completely different story when he used his numbers on a 5-spot Keno ticket, lottery officials said.

As his ”birthday celebration with his girlfriend was winding down, he decided to watch the games on his Lottery mobile app,” the release said.

“When that last number came out, I was sure that something was wrong,” the man told lottery officials. “I figured I was watching the wrong game number.”

Shrouded in disbelief, he checked his ticket again.

“This can’t be,” the winner told lottery officials he thought to himself.

The mechanic’s combination “finally came through for him” with a $30,000 win, lottery officials said.

“The birthday party got a second wind after that,” the man said in the release.

The man told lottery officials he plans to spend his winnings on bills.
