A grocery shopper turned a $50 scratch-off lottery ticket into a prize with a lot more zeroes in Florida.

Vernon Lee won $1 million with a ticket he bought at a Publix in Orlando for the $1,000,000 A Year For Life Spectacular game, the Florida Lottery announced March 14.

The Orange County man’s lucky ticket came from the Publix Super Market at the Shoppes at Storey Park, which will receive $2,000 for selling it, lottery officials said.

Lee beat the 1-in-185,709 odds to land the highest prize amount left in the game, after the two jackpot amounts were sold, records show.

The 60-year-old visited a Florida Lottery office in Orlando to claim his prize, which he accepted as a one-time payment of $640,000, lottery officials said.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
