Deaf, visually impaired pup with ‘unbridled joy’ for life needs home. Meet Peppa
Peppa was born deaf and visually impaired, but the 1-year-old mixed breed uses her “perfectly pink nose” as a guide, shelter officials in Hawaii said.
The perky pup, who can make out shadows and shapes, “navigates the world with ease, curiosity, and confidence,” playing with toys and “greeting her friends with a wagging tail and her gorgeous smile,” the Hawaii Island Humane Society said in a May 6 post on Facebook.
Shelter officials are hoping Peppa soon finds a family of her own.
The all-white pup has spent 281 days — much of her short life — in the humane society’s care, shelter officials said. And although Peppa is safe and loved, “a shelter is not a home,” officials said.
Peppa needs a place with a secure yard, and she’s most likely to thrive in an all-adult environment “with people who are willing to give her the time and patience she needs to adapt and adjust to new routines,” according to shelter officials.
They can expect to be paid back in exuberance and smiles.
“When you’re with Peppa, one thing is abundantly clear: this girl LOVES life. She exudes unbridled joy. She is all about having fun,” shelter officials said.
Peppa doesn’t allow anything to slow her down — and that’s inspired the people who’ve been caring and advocating for her.
“Peppa doesn’t know she’s different — she doesn’t know how most of the world sees her. So — we choose to be like Peppa. We don’t see her as different either — because to us, she is a dog, living in a shelter, in need of a loving home,” shelter officials said.
