A stranger sexually assaulted a woman after Arizona prosecutors say he barged into a her home as she was on the phone with 911.

Jeremy Naltazan, 35, was given a 13-year prison sentence in connection with a December sexual assault of a 67-year-old woman, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office said in a Sept. 3 news release.

Naltazan’s sentencing comes after he pleaded guilty to one count each of sexual assault and attempted sexual assault in July, court records show.

An attorney for Naltazan did not immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment on Sept 3.

After hearing a knock at the front door of her home just before 10 p.m. Dec. 16, the woman peered out the window and saw a man she didn’t know, prosecutors said.

“When he asked to use her phone, she refused and called police,” prosecutors said.

As the woman spoke over the phone with a 911 dispatcher, the man, identified as Naltazan, forced his way inside, prosecutors said.

Naltazan grabbed the woman and covered her mouth to stifle her screams, prosecutors said.

“He held her down and began sexually assaulting her,” according to prosecutors.

When Phoenix Police officers arrived, prosecutors said “Naltazan was still assaulting the victim.”

The woman heard the arriving officers and again yelled for help, prosecutors said.

Naltazan fled the home and jumped over the backyard fence, according to prosecutors.

Officers chased Naltazan and ultimately arrested him, prosecutors said.

“It takes extraordinary courage for a victim to resist, call for help, and ultimately assist police in identifying her attacker,” County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said in the release. “Because of her strength, and the quick response of law enforcement, this dangerous predator has been stopped, and our community is safer.”

After serving his prison sentence, Naltazan will face a “lifetime supervised probation,” according to prosecutors.
