Watch: Gov. Gavin Newsom news conference on homeless and coronavirus pandemic
California Governor Gavin Newsom’s live press conferences continue from Pittsburg, Calif., where he plans to announce updates on the state’s plan to keep homeless populations safe from the coronavirus. Watch a replay of the livestream below.
Newsom’s latest remarks come as California records a surge in new coronavirus cases. Earlier this week, the governor announced rollbacks in reopening measures in Imperial County and closed bars across the state.
The talk will provide new information on Project Roomkey, an initiative meant to keep individuals experiencing homelessness from catching — and spreading — the coronavirus. Motels across Sacramento were opened for homeless people in May as part of the program.
As of Sunday, California Department of Public Health records count 216,550 total cases.
